Sgt P's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Farewell February

Farewell to the month dedicated to love and lonely hearts everywhere...  I hope I've given you food for thought about relationships and otherwise.

I recently got an invite to a blindfold speed dating event.  I did not go as I had other plans but it's an intriguing idea don't you think?

I also received an invite to the National Flirting Convention being held in San Francisco, California this week.  I have never heard of this one before.  There are conventions for everything it seems.

So to each his own!  Some people out there actually want to meet people to date and some people are just players.  They have no intention of going out with you.  They just act like they do.  So don't rue the day!  Just move on.

If you want to see a movie with a heart, go see McFarland USA.  It's based on a true story about kids and a coach that have a heart for each other.

Chivalry is Not Dead

So it seems...

Winter is a time for hibernating especially if you get lots of snow which we did this past weekend.  However I ventured out on Sunday only to return home and got stuck in a snow drift.  I was STUCK and I mean STUCK!  However a winter knight came to help out this damsel in distress and so I Thank You!  Because otherwise I probably would have been stuck out there all night.

Night of Joy

Walt Disney World

Remember what spring break was like when you were younger?  You and your friends would go to Florida and soak in some sunshine and work on your tans?  I remember going to Panama City and that first day on the beach we all fell asleep and ended up getting burned.  Like Ouch!  First time I remember ever having my skin peel.  So the next day we all just vegged in our hotel room and the remainder of the break we spent at Disney World.  I went and got pictures taken with Mickey and Goofy...  I even ran into an old college friend who was working there.  It really is a small world after all.

So last night I was watching a televised concert from Disney World called Night of Joy.  Enjoyed the music!

Best Wonton Soup Ever

A Favorite Soup

So have you ever had a time when you tried something and thought it was delicious only to keep asking for it but never getting it?  I have been searching for this wonton soup for ages ever since a networking buddy of mine introduced me to this soup.  He's a native from China and he ordered our group this wonton soup that I could never get.  I just recently asked a guy at the Chinese restaurant about it and he told me it was Hong Kong style.  Finally!  After all this time I finally figured out what the soup is.

My Brother's Keeper...

And Then Some!

Do you know someone in your life that likes to play god?  Someone that likes to control, orchestrate and manipulate the people around them?  Sometimes having friends is good and sometimes it's not.  The friends you want to have are the ones that are happy for you no matter what:  Not friends that want to see you suffer because they're unhappy.  You have a choice to make friends that bring you up to their level or friends that drag you down to theirs.  Jealousy and pettiness runs rampant in our society and people have hidden agendas for doing what they want to do.

I think it's ironic and God gives us free will but some of the people in our lives do not.  Even God doesn't play god with our lives.  We all have free will to do whatever we want.  He's not stopping us.  It's a choice we make to live our lives the way we live our lives.

So when it comes to friends, choose wisely...  We all have our inner circle and then our fun friends and acquaintances.  Friends come in all colors, shapes, and sizes.  I think it's nice to have a good variety but just know who you can trust and who you can't.

When Harry Met Sally

The Age Old Question:  Can Men & Women Be Friends?

According to Harry in the movie, men and women can't be friends because of you know what!  What do you think?

I think back on the guy friends I've had (and I like having my guy friends) however I will admit that even with your guy friends there is a friend chemistry between the two of you if that make sense?  I will say that perception and perspective do not always line up though.  I remember telling one of my guy friends that I liked another guy and he broke up with me.  The thing is that I had no idea we were even dating.  That's what I mean when I say perception.  Eventually we made up and he is now happily married and living out of state.  I wish him all the happiness in the world and will always remain fond of him.

I think ultimately there is friendship between the sexes until one of you likes the other more and it's simply not reciprocal to the point that it gets awkward.

Old Fashioned

Fifty Shades of Pink

So I guess I'm just not a grey kind of girl.  Instead I wore shades of pink on Valentine's Day.  So this was an interesting holiday for me:  I went to the symphony, saw a movie, and attended a party.

The movie I saw was Old Fashioned and I saw a preview of it when I went to a special screening of the movie Do You Believe?  This is another great movie to watch from the same producers of the movie, God's Not Dead

Old Fashioned was not quite what I thought it would be about but I did really like it.  It may be old fashioned but it is about respect and what self-respecting gal would not want that?  Try and catch it this week

A Pre-Valentine's Message

Advice to the Lovelorn...

So are you still single?  Are you wondering why?   Is it that you're too picky or not picky enough?  Here are some ways that you can meet someone.  I have either experienced this or someone I know has told me about it.

For men:

You could leave your number under her windshield...  granted she may wonder how you knew it was her car but stalking is all the rage now.  (I'm kidding, of course!  Please don't stalk.)

You could go to a bookstore and hit on every woman there until you find one that says "yes" to you.

You could push her in a lake.

You could propose marriage to her.

You could proposition her but if she gives you "that look" you'd better follow up with a quick proposal.  (Not that she would say yes!  And I personally would not recommend you try this in the first place.)

(Unfortunately, I would like to give better advice for men but I have heard from a number of women that have told me that for men, it's a numbers game.  It almost doesn't matter which one as long as we say yes.  And men wonder why they have such a hard time finding women!?!)

If you're one of good guys then please disregard this.

For women:

You can let a guy know you're interested by flirting with him.

Don't ever chase a guy!  You may end up with the guy but you will not want him.

If a guy wears a wedding ring, stay away!  If he hides his wedding ring, stay away!

If you are dating a guy and you notice him hiding behind shelves and is stalking you, stay away!

Unfortunately there are a lot of men you may need to stay away from.

Also don't stalk men!  Never stalk men!

Don't ever let a man walk all over you!

For everyone:

Don't ever date someone on the rebound.  Don't date yourself if you are on the rebound.  Believe me!  You will be making a huge mistake and your decisions will fall under the category of dumb and stupid.

Don't settle!

They say when you know, you know!  You know?

Above all, put God first and the rest will follow...  personally I know of some guys out there that are simply not husband material.  I would rather not date than to be married to one of them.  However there are also very nice guys out there.  You just have to go through a lot of frogs.

On average for every fifty gals/guys you meet, you will probably only like ONE.  Sometimes you will keep running into someone and sometimes you will only get to meet them once.  For all my married friends out there, they met their special someone because of all kinds of scenarios but that's the thing about love stories.  They're all unique and I like hearing about how people fell in love.

Bruce Jennings

Dream Rider

What do you do when faced with incredible odds?  Do you quit and give up or do you keep going?  Watching the movie Dream Rider is a total inspiration.  It is the true story about a high school kid that does what seems like the impossible against insurmountable odds.  The thing is that no matter how often he gets knocked down, he keeps brushing himself up and keeps going!  Way to go Bruce!

Calidore String Quartet

"Where are they now?"

If you're like me then you love music!  You love listening to it and you love singing to it.  Sometimes you just want to fall asleep to it.  It's relaxing and cathartic at the same time.  Wouldn't it be cool to swing in a hammock while a live orchestra was playing just for you?

This past weekend I went to a local art museum and listened to the Calidore String Quartet. It's amazing how music can transport you to faraway places.  Bravo to this talented foursome!

How could you live in a world without music?

Duh Moment!

Remember those?

I remember back in my salad days...  which would be when I was fairly young...  I was sitting in the chapel of the college I was attending and decided to chat with an elderly couple seated close by.  I asked them if they were visiting students who were family.  Imagine my consternation when the gentleman stated that if I was to look in the foyer of the chapel, I would see his picture displayed there being that he was chancellor of my college.  Oops!

Dead End

Are you looking for Easy Street?

So I was listening to Dr. David Jeremiah this morning and he was talking literally about Easy Street and how it leads to a Dead End in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Now I have been to Hawaii ages ago but I never knew there was an Easy Street which is probably a good thing because then I would have ended in a Dead End.  As it is I'm in the Midwest shivering like the rest of you with a supply of snowballs in case you come visiting.

Dr. Jeremiah is also in California!  Why is it that everyone is there but me?

Enjoy your weekend!  And get some shut-eye!  Zzzzzzz...

Gotta Go

Groundhog!

If I were a groundhog would I bite the ear off of someone?  That's what I hear happened to one unsuspecting mayor.

So the weather gets cold then balmy then cold then balmy...  Guess who's in California?  Jimmy Fallon!  Not fair!  I'm not there yet.  One day soon!  I've been there before.  I love San Francisco's bay area!

Facing the Giants

Football?

So Superbowl Sunday is come and gone and there were some interesting ads I hear.  Some even from the dark side.  I won't say how dark though.

I watched a movie about football called Facing the Giants.  I have watched this movie before and really like it.  It's about a coach and a high school football team that face tremendous odds.  They learn a valuable life lesson in the process.  You should watch this movie and see what you think.
