Worker's Comp

A Real Pain in the Butt

I heard this story about a woman who broke her leg due to a worker's comp injury.  Do you know that they would not treat her medically until her worker's comp was approved?  During that time her leg set the way it had broken and they had to re-break her leg so that they could get her better.  Talk about unnecessary pain.

I know a number of employees at this one company on worker's comp who have all been put through hell.  Was it their fault that they got injured?  No... but it was their fault that they sought legal action.  So what did this company do?  Fire and lay them off.  What's a big bad company doing that for when they have billions of dollars in their pocket?  Shame on you!

Pain

and Suffering

Are you in pain?  Do you suffer?  You know what's really tough is when someone else causes an accident that you are in and that accident changes your entire life.  You know what I mean?  Like those that end up paralyzed or blind due to being in a car accident or a work injury that causes you to lose a limb or live with life-debilitating conditions.  What some people don't get is that these injuries change your life.  There is no money in the world that is worth losing your physical health over.  Some people just don't get that some things in this world are priceless.  No amount of money is going to ever make up for what was lost due to something that was no fault of your own.

I watched No Lost Cause last night.  It is a movie about a woman who gets hit by a drunk driver and is paralyzed for life.  If you watch this movie then wait for the surprise ending.  It takes time to forgive someone for leaving you in that kind of condition.

Ethics

Do as I Say?

Or do as I do?  There is a big divide between principles and practices, don't you think?  It's very lofty of us to come up with principles that we say we practice but exactly how much does it mean if we never put them to use?  Think about it?  Every company out there has great ethics they say but we all know that is not the case because it depends on each individual person in that company.  The bigger the company the more the disparity in the values of the corporation itself.  Is it any wonder that most people trust the small business owner more than a corporation?

Life is Like

No Other!

Because we are all unique and our lives are all different.  I was looking at the trees and thinking that they are all unique.  Think about their branches and bark...  Their leaves...  Not one is truly alike.  Are they?  Not unlike humans who are different as well.  We each have our own idiosyncrasies and pet peeves.  Just because we are who we are.

Have a good day and do something kind for yourself as well as others!

Generation X

Who are we?

So I had this interesting conversation with this guy recently about the letter X.  I used to write Merry Xmas until someone told me that writing Xmas was taking Christ out of Christmas so I stopped.  However last week I learned that in the Greek alphabet, the letter X actually stands for Christ.  So I actually wasn't taking Christ out of Christmas after all.  I am somewhat amazed though by the controversy surrounding this issue.

That being said are we Generation Christ?  Meaning are we the generation that sees the beginning and the end?

Happy Birthday to Someone Special!

A First Birthday

Do you remember your first birthday?  Probably not because it's more for the family members as opposed to the baby.  However it's still something special and it only comes around once in a lifetime.  To be one!  And not just something less.  Here's a birthday blessing to my baby nephew!

Rain or Bust!

No Drought Here

What is happening to the Midwest?  Since when did we see so much rain?  When you look out the windows you see a torrential downpour most of the time.  And summer's almost over and no tan!  I have to admit that this summer has been very different with all the rain and the bugs.  Not quite what I was looking forward to during the cold of winter.

The Golden Rule Versus

The Platinum Rule

I attended an ethics meeting recently and the group got into a lively discussion regarding the nuances of the Golden Rule which is all about treating others as you would want them to treat you.  However then someone brought up a good point that really isn't it all about being treated the way we want to be treated?  This is what the Platinum Rule is all about because this is tailored to the individual.  Think about it!  We are all different so different things are what we want.  So really don't treat others the way you want to be treated but treat them the way they want to be treated because then you're not just Golden, you're Platinum!

Awkward Moment

When someone says...

"I love you" too prematurely or when it's simply not mutual.  What do you do?  Do you just say it because you feel that you were guilted into it and you don't want to hurt their feelings or do you just simply avoid them for the rest of your life?  Isn't it amazing how three little words can change the dynamics of a relationship for the better or worse just because of timing and appropriateness?

So which one are you?

The Truth about Cats & Dogs

There is a personality test that you need to take because it will tell you a little about how you approach people.  You see, some people are like cats and some people are like dogs.  However this has nothing to do with actually owning a pet.  Or whether you have any cats or dogs.  Think about it...  People who are like dogs like to paw all over you and get in your face constantly.  Whereas people who are like cats tend to like solitude and are standoffish.  They don't like being touched.  Less is more.  So which one are you?  I'm definitely a cat if you haven't figured that out by now.  Meow!

Personal Space

As in, Excuse Moi!

Did you know that each person has an ideal personal space that is just perfect for them?  Culturally there are commonalities but each person is as each person is.  I respect other people's personal space because that is the way that I would like them to treat me.  What happens when someone invades your space?  You feel uncomfortable and if you're too nice to let them know, you just let them keep doing it, but inside you are seething mad because why can't they respect your space?  Or you could just let them have it!  As you can see, some trees have no personal space...

Playing God

Sometimes...

Do you ever wonder why there are some people in your life that are all about telling you what you should do or who you should be spending time with?  It's your life!  Not theirs and yet they seem to want to control you or tell you what to do.  Sometimes I wonder if I am the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz that didn't have a brain.  Do I not know myself by now to make my own decisions?  It's ironic that people don't like being told what to do but that they have no problem telling others what to do.  Treat others as you would want to be treated.
