Food

Takeover!

Are there days when you feel like food is taking over your life?  Well, I definitely feel that this weekend it did!  I was invited to a festival yesterday with an all you can eat buffet.  Lots of great Japanese and American food.  Not to mention dessert.  Yum!  Then a friend of mine cooked dinner for me:  Sukiyaki!  Very tasty and nutritious!  Lots of veggies!  Then I was at another potluck today which served lots of good old American country cooking!  I am stuffed.  I have not eaten this much since last weekend.  That's the thing about potlucks.  Tons of food!

Speaking of food, the Taste of Cincinnati is coming up!  Mark it on your calendars and check it out!

Andrew Sullivan

Controversial Comment!

Are we losing our rights?  I heard about this on the radio today!  There has been some controversy going on lately regarding Mozilla's CEO being forced to resign.  Andrew Sullivan had something to say!

Waka... waka... waka... Chomp... chomp!

Remember Ms Pacman?

Finals are almost here and this has been a challenging semester.  Sometimes you just need a study break.  I find Ms Pacman to be an ideal way to take a break especially if you've been typing or on the computer for a while.  Just the thing to take you out of a brain daze.

Jigsaw puzzles and tetris are other ways to take a mental break...  Just don't get hooked that you forget to eat or go outside.  Because it is nice out sometimes.  I do hear that part of the midwest is expecting snow.  Mama mia!  Not again!

Know your medic!

Pieces and Parts

Don't you sometimes wonder how a doctor can take out the wrong part or amputate the wrong limb?  Well, evidently a woman got her ovary taken out by mistake when it actually should have been her appendix.  Always make sure before major surgery that you have a good doctor that knows what he/she is doing as well as knowing yourself what is being done.  It can make a world of difference!

Glassdoor

What don't you know that you should?

Are you or a loved one looking for a job?  Then check out Glassdoor.  This website offers you reviews from current and previous employees.  My friends told me about this site.  You will get "the good, the bad, and the ugly" about the company your work for or are hoping to work for.

Also when you look through the reviews then look past the current ones to get a more realistic picture.  Sometimes companies will have their employees go out and write good reviews if the previous ones are bad.  This is known as scrubbing.  It's amazing what you can learn from your friends.

Well...  Finally!  Spring is in the air and flowers are starting to bloom.  In fact, I think this weather is bringing on spring fever.  Different people I know are telling me that it is getting difficult to concentrate.  Sunny daze are here again!

Ever find yourself driving around in the sunshine just soaking in a beautiful day?  Sometimes because you just want to be out in it.  A windy day is a great day to be out in a sailboat.  Just cresting the waves while the boat is tilted at just the right angle.

For kids...

Good Idea!

I was helping a couple of women wrap gifts tonight for children.  These gifts were books.  What was unique about the books is that they each had a personalized recording of the book that was read to them by a loved one.  It's kind of like listening to audiobooks except that the person reading the story is your own grandmother, mother, etc.

Neat idea!  I'm sure these books will become treasured momentos after the giver has passed on.  I believe that there are books on the market where you can record your own voice telling the story but I can't think of who at this moment.

Good Friday!

Do you believe in life after death?

Have you ever met someone that has had an actual near death experience?  They see a white light and loved ones that have passed before?  However I have also heard that some people see a lake of fire with people melting in it.  Sounds gory, huh?

There is a new movie out called Heaven is for Real.  It's the true story about a little boy that nearly dies because of appendicitis.  This movie tells us about his experiences while he is in heaven.  Lately many pastors are publishing books that have to do with heaven.

Frozen...

An arctic fairytale!

A friend of mine called me up to go see Frozen so we went.  It's actually a very cute movie.  It was playing at the dollar theater.  Isn't ironic how many cartoons are made for adults these days?

I also went and saw God's Not Dead!  It was a very good movie and made me cry.  It's about a philosophy professor who forces his whole class to write down that "God is dead" on a document and sign it.  One student in his class doesn't and begins a debate with the professor as the prosecutor and the other students as the jury.  Lots of food for thought!

Brrr...

Cool Chill in the Air!

Winter just does not want to let go of us this year!  I must admit that the older I get, the more I don't like the cold.  Or chill to be exact.  Not to mention everyone is getting sick with this, that or the other.  It's days like this that you dream of living in another place:  A very warm place.

If you're looking for something to do today, you might want to check out Shen Yun.  It looks amazing!  I have not been able to go see it yet but it looks highly entertaining.

On a sadder note, a ferry capsized in South Korea yesterday. Many are still unaccounted for.  They are still trying to find the missing people many of who are believed to be from one high school and no longer living.

Fickle Weather...

Midwest Living

What is it about Ohio weather that lets you enjoy a weekend in the 70's only to surprise you with snow a few days later?  I kid you not!  This past weekend I walked past trees with flowers blooming and the local pools are all getting cleaned out to open next month.  Does it seem strange that you see people walking around in shorts only to get snow?

Life...

Ever hear of fair weather friends?  It's true but when you go through adversity then you do realize who your real friends and family are.  I feel that I have been very fortunate in my choice of friends.  Friends come in all shapes and sizes.  Some you enjoy talking to and some are centered around more action-oriented activities.  The thing about friends and people in general is that each person you meet or hang out with brings out different sides of you.  Do you notice how some people bring out the best in you and some bring out the worst?  Some bring out your funny side and some bring out your more serious nature?  The more people you hang out with the more balanced you become because your many facets are being brought out in the open.  There's something to be said for balance.

April Showers...

Bring May Flowers!  Not!

So I hear that we are getting snow tomorrow.  Like really?!?  Again!  It's April...  Ay yi yi!

Well it is finally here, the blood moon!  A friend of mine texted me and said she saw a gorgeous one in Hungary.  I went outside to take a picture but it was cloudy and rainy and I didn't see anything.  I think I may miss this one however there will be more.

Palm Sunday

Keep Calm and Carry On

During World War II, the British government appointed the Ministry of Information to design "morale boosting posters."  These posters were placed everywhere and oddly enough actually kept people from going haywire during the war.  Nowadays you can see these original poster graphics on notecards, etc. at your local bookstore.  There are days when we need to keep calm and carry on.

Today was beautiful!  The weather was in the 70's and I went to a local mall to meet with friends.  We walked around and just enjoyed the weather.  We went into a store called Lush where they featured Gorilla Perfume.  Hopefully this product doesn't make you smell like a gorilla or make you act like one.

Spring is here!  Ahhh...

Our first blood moon is coming up...

April 15th

NASA has predicted four lunar eclipses in the next two years.  Our first one is coming up on Tuesday.  I still can't believe the size of the asteroid that went past us in March.  Lots of interesting space happenings in our world today.

If you live in Columbus, Ohio then Ohio State and COSI are both in the process of reopening their planetariums.  Ohio State opened theirs recently and COSI is in progress of opening up theirs pending further funding.

Something interesting to do if you want to further study the stars!

I met with my writing group last weekend and we had some pretty interesting writing prompts.  They always get our creative juices flowing and give me ideas for new poems.

Enjoy the nice weather this weekend!

If finally feels like Spring!

Which means...

trips to King's Island and other interesting hot spots.  I remember when King's Island had Scooby Bucks!  Those were fun to get and use up!  I always like visiting the Snoopy store and going on the water rides.  I am not a fan of roller coasters but can do the tamer ones.

Do you like reading blogs?

Then check out Feedspot!

Feedspot is the one stop spot to read all your favorite blogs!  It's like having an email address where all your favorite blogs get sent to you.  It's an easy way to access and keep track of your blogs.  Here's more info regarding this website.

Another tool that I have been playing with lately is Google Plus.  I set up a profile on their website about a month ago.  Believe me when I say that all this internet technology is sometimes daunting and overwhelming.  Slowly a little bit at a time I am getting the hang of this.  It's always a good thing to take baby steps when attempting something.

I've been doing something a little different with my poetry blog lately.  I'm adding my pics with my poetry.  Check it out...

Fun, Fun, Fun...

Here's to sunny days!!!

Have a Happy April Fool's Day!  :)

Spring Cleaning!

Gives you a sense of accomplishment....

I have to admit that I do feel a sense of accomplishment this week.  I was able to put together four bags of clothes and shoes to donate.  I still have a ton of other projects to do but if I tackle them one by one hopefully!  Life has been busy lately.  I am so glad the weather is finally getting warmer.  It's actually 70 degrees today.  Can you believe it?  After this long, long winter...

Yeast...

Something to think about...

I heard a message this weekend about hypocrisy.  What do hypocrisy and yeast have in common?

They are both "totally unseen, a little bit affects a lot, spreads rapidly, puffs things up, and ingests all the sweetness out."

I thought it was an interesting message.  When do we become hypocrites?  When we want others to think of us more highly or to avoid peer pressure.  One thing, I never would have made the connection between yeast and hypocrisy.

What's the difference between an accident and murder?  A premeditated intention...

If you think about it, there are things we do because we feel like we have to do them but don't necessarily want to.  In the end it's our intention that defines what we do.  If you do something nice for a person but deep inside can't stand them, then why do it?  When you act on an intention then the intention matters.  Does that make sense?

Dr. Neil Clark Warren wrote a book about finding your soulmate.  I read this book and one thought stands out:  That the reason there are so many divorces is because people were too nice to tell each other they didn't want to really marry them in the first place.

Lots of food for thought!
