And Knowing It

A friend and I watched a movie about a man who knew numbers like Beethoven knew music.  Afterwards as we were talking we spoke to a man that had seen the same movie.  He pointed out the Northern Cross to us and their connection to black holes.  Interesting because you hear about the Southern Cross so much.  But not so much the Northern Cross.  You learn something new everyday.

If you want to volunteer somewhere, volunteer at the NICU ward...  I remember my days volunteering there.  Most of the babies in the ward are preemies.  That means that these babies are about the size of your hand.  I remember thinking how tiny these babies are because I was used to the normal-sized babies from various friends.  However after that stint volunteering in the NICU I began thinking of preemies as normal-sized because once I saw normal babies again, I used to remark on how big the babies were.  It's all a matter of perspective.

Life or Death?

Years ago I remember volunteering in the NICU of a local children's hospital.  I remember one time I came in and asked about one of the babies I had seen.  I was told that she had died because she never had anyone to visit her.  Ironic that some people think babies don't know anything but in reality they know so much more than you think.  Most of all they know that they are loved or not. 

Studies have been done that have proved that babies need touch in order to survive.  Babies are so precious and yet its amazing that some parents don't know how to love their child.  The majority of my friends have made it a point to really nurture their children and their kids are generally healthy, happy, and most important of all, confident in who they are becoming.

Think about it...  At this point and time you remember what goes on around you but you may not remember in a few years.  Well a baby is aware of his/her surroundings while they are a baby but obviously forget later in life.  Seriously as we get older who doesn't forget a thing or two.  It's interesting though interacting with a baby.  Make sure to hug a baby a lot whether they be your own kids or nephews, nieces, etc.  Anything and everything you do is going to impact that baby's growth.

Vs Injustice!

Have you been reading the headlines lately?  Terrible things have been happening all over the country and all over the world.  What is this world coming to?

Justice and injustice actually mean about the same thing if you think about it.  Justice is being concerned with fairness and injustice is being concerned with a lack of fairness.  There is a lot of injustice in this world unfortunately.

I heard about a man who lost his leg in a worker's compensation accident.  They gave him twenty thousand dollars for the loss of his leg.  I'm sorry but that is a paltry sum considering this man has to live without his leg for the rest of his life.  Twenty thousand dollars is about half of what most people make in a year.  Does that sound right to you?  Is his leg really only worth twenty thousand?  Think he should have been owed at least a million for that injury.

So in addition to seeing squirrels, geese, bunnies, foxes, etc. in the area where I live, I now keep seeing a baby skunk.  I think the baby is an orphan and has no where to go.  This baby skunk keeps circling the buildings and the other night I almost ran right into it.  Life keeps twisting and turning every which way.

What a day to rejuvenate and connect!  This day celebrates seven in so many ways, don't you think?  What exactly does seven mean and what does it stand for?

At this point I can't remember what book because I'm reading like three to four at the same time but there was this one book that had a bit about how not everyone has the same sleep schedule.  Some of us are morning people and some of us are not.  The point being that if you can get a job or live your life around your internal clock you tend to be happier and more productive.  One genius would sleep a few hours, get up do stuff, go to sleep again, etc.  He never actually had a night and day, just spaces of time when he would either be awake or asleep.

Odd day really!  I began with a parade, went into work for a half day, then met a chum for dinner, and ran out to a nearby parking lot to watch the fireworks.  Exactly what does this day mean to me?  Well, the Declaration of Independence says that I have the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness..."  So am I happy?  Hmmm...
