And Knowing It

A friend and I watched a movie about a man who knew numbers like Beethoven knew music.  Afterwards as we were talking we spoke to a man that had seen the same movie.  He pointed out the Northern Cross to us and their connection to black holes.  Interesting because you hear about the Southern Cross so much.  But not so much the Northern Cross.  You learn something new everyday.

If you want to volunteer somewhere, volunteer at the NICU ward...  I remember my days volunteering there.  Most of the babies in the ward are preemies.  That means that these babies are about the size of your hand.  I remember thinking how tiny these babies are because I was used to the normal-sized babies from various friends.  However after that stint volunteering in the NICU I began thinking of preemies as normal-sized because once I saw normal babies again, I used to remark on how big the babies were.  It's all a matter of perspective.

Life or Death?

Years ago I remember volunteering in the NICU of a local children's hospital.  I remember one time I came in and asked about one of the babies I had seen.  I was told that she had died because she never had anyone to visit her.  Ironic that some people think babies don't know anything but in reality they know so much more than you think.  Most of all they know that they are loved or not. 

Studies have been done that have proved that babies need touch in order to survive.  Babies are so precious and yet its amazing that some parents don't know how to love their child.  The majority of my friends have made it a point to really nurture their children and their kids are generally healthy, happy, and most important of all, confident in who they are becoming.

Are Actually Smarter Than You Think

Think about it...  At this point and time you remember what goes on around you but you may not remember in a few years.  Well a baby is aware of his/her surroundings while they are a baby but obviously forget later in life.  Seriously as we get older who doesn't forget a thing or two.  It's interesting though interacting with a baby.  Make sure to hug a baby a lot whether they be your own kids or nephews, nieces, etc.  Anything and everything you do is going to impact that baby's growth.
